Brush fires rage all over county Gusting winds, dry air make conditions explosive

Thousands of acres have been charred after several fires quickly got out of control due to high winds on Tuesday and spread across dry vegetation.

Firefighters from across a large portion of southern Missouri fought blazes in the region for most of the day Tuesday and into the early morning hours today.

As winds were expected to gust up to 40 mph Tuesday, a Red Flag Warning was issued, but that didn't deter some people from burning. There were three separate fires in Laclede County.

Ehlert brings Twain tribute back to library

The Lebanon-Laclede County Library has invited one of its most popular speakers back for an evening of family entertainment Friday.

Dave Ehlert will portray Mark Twain in a performance of "Mark Twain 100 Years Later" at 7 p.m. Friday at the library.

"This is his second time coming to the library. He was here a couple of years ago, and truly it was one of our best attended programs ever. He really was tremendous – funny, he never left character," said Cathy Dame, Lebanon-Laclede County Library director.

MSG William L. “Lenn” Clark, 60, of Richland, died Monday, March 5, 2012 at his home.

He was born Oct. 12, 1951.

Spring Fling comes to Atchley Park Saturday

It’s time to shake off those winter blues. This weekend the Lebanon Parks and Recreation Department and Lebanon Family YMCA is inviting the public to kick off spring with a new – and they hope – annual outdoor event.

The first Spring Fling will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Atchley Park. The event will feature a 5k run, a regional baseball pitching, hitting and running competition and all kinds of inflatables for the kids to play on.

Monique “Nikki’’ Anna Marie (Hoyon) Bennett, 74, of St. Robert, died Saturday, March 3, 2012, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center of Rolla.

She is survived by a sister, Francine Bigerel (Francis) of Grenoble, France; two nieces, one nephew, close friends and neighbors, George and Daisy Francisco; also other relatives.

Funeral services for Monique “Nikki’’ Anna Marie (Hoyon) Bennett will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Sheriff investigates accidental shooting Victim remains hospitalized in Springfield

The Laclede County Sheriff's Office is investigating what appears to be an accidental shooting that occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on Sunday.

A 16-year-old youth contacted authorities to report that he had accidentally shot a 38-year-old man while they were hunting near the 32000 area of Route AC.

The Rev. Frank H. Ragg, Jr.

The Rev. Frank H. Ragg, Jr., 85, Marshfield, died Saturday, March 3, 2012, in the Mercy Hospital-Lebanon.

He was a retired Methodist minister.

Survivors include his four daughters, Linda Hale and her husband, Bruce, of Eugene, Ore.; Rita Wall and her husband, Randy, of Lebanon; Nita Bechtel and her husband, Jerry, of Lebanon, and Kathey Walker and her husband, Roger, of Houston, Texas; a son, Frank H. Ragg, III and his wife, Donette, of Los Angeles, Calif.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Drugs, stolen credit card found at hotel

A 29-year-old Lebanon woman was arrested after drugs and paraphernalia were found in her motel room, but she is in even more trouble after police discovered that she had another person's debit card in her purse.

Edna Irene Henson

Edna Irene Henson, 82, of Lebanon, died Monday morning, March 5, 2012, at Christian Healthcare South in Lebanon.

She is survived by a sister, Effie Henson, of Lebanon; a sister-in-law, Bennie Elmore, of Lebanon, also several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements for Edna Henson are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon.
