Night drug raid collars 2

A late night raid by a collection of area law enforcement officers has resulted in drug charges for two people from Lebanon.

Jennifer Dryer, 32, is charged with a Class C felony of possession of a controlled substance, and Jacob Walter Shue, 32, faces a Class B felony charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, according to a probable cause statement released by the Laclede County Prosecuting Attorney's office.

Richard “Glenn” Calvin

Richard “Glenn” Calvin, 70, of Rolla, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, in Rolla.

He was born Nov. 11, 1941 in Fulton, Mo. to Richard Garrett Calvin and Evelyn Kathryn (McDonald) Calvin, who preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by his brother Tommy Lee Calvin

He served his country in the U.S. Army 25th Infantry Division as a Combat Medic in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968.  During his service in Vietnam he earned several medals including the Bronze Star, Combat Medical Badge and Purple Heart.

He was publisher of the Weekly Trader.

Fortner takes over as tourism director

The city of Lebanon has hired a director of tourism. Judy Fortner has returned to the area from Clarksville, Tenn. Her first day on the job was Monday, just in time for Opening Day of trout season.

“I’m very excited to return to this part of the country. Growing up next door to Laclede County in Laquey, I have family in the area and visited Lebanon on a regular basis while I was away,” Fortner said.

She replaces Gail Bryant, who resigned in July 2010.

Castaway Campground

A tornado that struck the Bennett Spring area early Wednesday morning had a devastating effect on Castaway Campground just outside of Bennett Spring State Park on Missouri 64. Of the 27 trailers on the campsite, about 24 were destroyed

Brady Lee “Bill’’ Rainwater

Brady Lee “Bill’’ Rainwater, 77, of Moon Valley, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at his home.

He was born June 3, 1934, in St. Louis, Mo.

He was preceded in death by Margaret Rainwater; a son, Brady, and a daughter, Tracy.

He is survived by his children, Cheryl, Becky, Bill, and Kim, also a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
