High court takes up fight over Obama health law

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court plunged into debate Monday on the fate of the Obama administration's overhaul of the nation's health care system, and the justices gave every indication they will not allow an obscure tax law to derail the case.

A decision is expected by late June, in the midst of a presidential election campaign in which all of President Barack Obama's Republican challengers oppose the law and promise its repeal if the high court hasn't struck it down in the meantime.

Bill to allow outfitters in state park makes its way through the Rural Community Development Committee

Will the state’s parks department back away from its stance of no buses and work out a compromise with river outfitters in the Bennett Spring State Park area, or will it take a change in state law?

HB 1815 was heard before the House Rural Community Development Committee last week, allowing local outfitters the opportunity to testify to the delayed enforcement of a 50-year-old law that prohibits commercial vehicles in state parks.

Delores Bates, 77, of Lebanon, died Friday, March 23, 2012, in Springfield.

She was born July 24, 1934, at Competition in Wright County, Mo. to Calvin and Jewell Williams Bennett.

On June 15, 1973 she married Leroy Bates.

She was a homemaker and a member of Competition Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Floyd Irvin McGuire; a stepson, Anthony Bates; a granddaughter, Amanda Stenger; a sister, Betty Griffin; also three brothers, Vencey Ball, Stanley Bennett, and Larry Bennett.

Five people face drug and child endangerment charges after police responded to an overdose call and found drugs in a home with a young child.

Faye McElroy, 72, of Lebanon, died Monday morning, March 26, 2012, at Mercy Hospital-Lebanon.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Ruble, of Falcon; also a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
