Are supplements safe?

Entering a pharmacy, a health food store or a retail store’s pharmacy department, shoppers might get the impression that all the dietary supplements sold there are safe for their use.
This is not the case. In fact, if you are seriously considering taking a supplement or two, your first step should be to consult your physician. He or she can tell you if a specific supplement available to the masses poses a danger or a boost to your specific health.
“Supplements, while beneficial in some instances, are certainly not safe for all individuals. Many of these supplements can not only cause harm, but can also be deadly,” said Lisa Boggs, nurse-practitioner.
