The wooden bridge in Bennett Spring State Park is coming back to life one and a half inches at a time as a work crew replaces the two by fours that will span the four existing steel I-beams.
Following the annual public meeting October 23, for Bennett Spring State Park, the Department of Natural Resources decided to replace the decking and reinforce the bridge for public use.
“When the decking is replaced, we are going to open it up as a single-lane passenger vehicle only bridge,” Adam Enboden said.
The weight limit for the bridge will continue to be the five-ton limit. This will accommodate passenger vehicles only.
Construction began Monday, November 19, with completion happening before the beginning of the next trout season on March 1.
