Fire claims home, pets

Thursday morning, Donnie and Shelly Adams had a home and a well thought out fire emergency plan. However, even the best plan does not work when no one is home to hear the alarms and call quickly for help before a home is lost.
Donnie, his wife Shelly, his daughter and his grandson lived at 12926 Harvest Road, which runs parallel to and north of Missouri 64.
“I had fire extinguishers on the wall, one in the kitchen, and I had smoke alarms in the hallway near where my daughter sleeps, and there’s one in the kitchen, one in my bedroom and one in the living room. We all knew which way to go whenever one started,” he said.
