Stabbing suspect charged


A New York man was hospitalized after allegedly being stabbed multiple times by a  man during a robbery Monday at a Lebanon gas station.
According to the Lebanon Police Department, a 27-year-old New York man had stopped at the Express Stop on Millcreek Road to get gas when he was allegedly assaulted and robbed by a 38-year-old High Ridge man.
Steven Joe Mitchell of High Ridge is charged with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, online court documents say. He is being held in the Laclede County Jail with bond denied.
Police allege that Mitchell, who had arrived at the gas station in a truck that had allegedly been stolen in Springfield that morning, had parked next to the New York man’s car. He walked up to the car and attempted to steal it from the New York man. During a struggle over the car, the New York man, who was sitting in the car, was stabbed multiple times, the police state in a press release.
