A former Lebanon resident accused of shooting a man during an attempted robbery is behind bars in Laclede County while law enforcement still looks for two men who reportedly aided in the alleged crimes.

“We have the shooter in custody, but we know at least two other suspects were involved in the robbery. We are currently following up leads to identify them,” Laclede County Sheriff David Millsap said.

Rodney Welch, 19, of Parsons, Kan., was arrested Friday afternoon by Parsons Police officers and Laclede County deputies. Welch had been charged on Thursday in the shooting of 19-year-old Noah Houston at Houston’s home on Jaybird Lane just north of Lebanon. Welch, who is on probation for burglary and stealing convictions in Dallas County, has been charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action in connection with the shooting.

“Two of our detectives went to Parsons on Friday, our theory was Welch would go back to Parsons after the shooting, and not stay in Laclede County. He was found hiding in a home in Parsons. The Parsons Police Department really helped us out and committed resources to our detectives to assist in finding Welch,” Millsap said. “He was taken into custody without incident, and they (Parsons PD) are looking at possible charges regarding those who were helping him evade arrest, and obstructing the investigation in Kansas.“
