Phyllis Appleberry, 78, of Lebanon, died Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Mercy Hospital Springfield.
She was born April 7, 1941, in Langdon, Mo. to Earl and Elsie Collins Gilbert.
On Dec. 25, 1970, she married Lloyd Dean Appleberry.
She was preceded in death by her parents her husband Lloyd, on Jan. 7, 2009; a daughter, Patricia Louise Gelina; two sons, James and David “Jimmy’’ Appleberry; a great-grandson, Jeremy Teubner, and two brothers, Charles and Clyde Gilbert.
After graduating from high school, she went to beauty school in Springfield and earned a cosmetology license. Later, she went to nursing school at Fort Leonard Wood, and then worked as a registered nurse at the fort hospital for several years. After that, she owned and operated Lebanon Nursing Home for a number of years. She was also a devoted homemaker to her husband and family through the years.
Phyllis made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was an active member of Community Baptist Church. She served on the hospitality board, helped with the Overcomers Program, and was a part of the Soul Winners group.
She is survived by two sons, Jay Appleberry, of Lebanon and Steve Appleberry, of Lebanon; one daughter-in-law, Christina Appleberry, of Lebanon; 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Phyllis Appleberry will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Reeves officiating. Burial will be in Lonesome Hill Cemetery, under the care and direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon.
Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Holman-Howe Funeral Home.
Memorial donations to Community Baptist Church Overcomers may be left at the funeral home.
