Buzzer-beater lifts Lebanon over Parkview on Senior Night

With just six seconds remaining and the score tied, Lebanon head coach Bill Brown dialed up a play for junior guard Quenton Shelton in front of a large crowd in Boswell Auditorium on Thursday night, and Shelton delivered a gift to the fans by hitting a game-winning shot with just 0.6 seconds left on the clock to defeat Parkview on Senior Night, 44-42.

Shelton scored 18 points in the game, including ten in the final quarter.

“We were playing a game during the summer, and I hadn’t been coaching the team for more than four days, and we were down by two and Quenton had a chance to tie the game, but he took a three,” Brown said. “(On Thursday) I told him that he wasn’t going to take a three and he was going to drive that sucker in there and either get a foul called or score and we weren’t going to take any chances.

“I told Dawson (Zimdars) to get on the opposite block, and he turned and told Quenton, ‘you shoot this ball,’ and he did and it was pretty impactful.”

Lebanon (12-10 overall, 5-3 Ozark Conference) led 2-0 to start the game but didn’t regain the lead again until 2:45 left in the contest when junior guard Bryson Crowell knocked down a key three-pointer to give the Yellowjackets a 42-40 lead.

“Taking a week off from games and coming out, we were rusty at the beginning, and it took us a little while to get our defense going,” Brown said. “These kids have bought into what we are trying to accomplish … it was a great basketball game, and I am super proud of these kids, and when I looked at them in the huddle, they had a look on their faces that we were going to win.

“Bryson (Crowell) hit a big shot for us down the stretch, and I am just happy we were able to pull this thing off.”
