For the third consecutive year, both Tryn Titus and Cooper Hess have qualified for the MSHSAA State Championship in boys’ golf.

The dynamic duo that has helped lead Lebanon to a numerous amount of wins over the past four years finished up the Missouri Class 4 Sectional 3 tournament in Joplin at Schifferdecker Golf Course.

With the top 20 qualifying for the State tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Silo Ridge Golf Course in Bolivar, Hess finished in a three-way tie for third place with a score of 74, just four shots off the lead.

“It has been awesome going to State (the past three years). It is a lot of people’s goal and to even go to State means you have accomplished something and not many get to go,” Hess mentioned. “I thought I drove it well off the tee today and gave myself a lot of birdie looks, but I just wasn’t able to capitalize on them.”

Titus finished 10th overall and carded a 77 on the course where par is a 71. Titus, along with Hess is a Drury golf commit and said the front nine was tough for him along with pin locations.

“I had a really rough front nine, but I was able to finish strong on the back,” he said. “I started to hit my tee shots super well, and I hope to do the same next week.  I wish my short game would have been better (on Monday). The pin locations on the greens have been super tough the last few weeks.

“It’s super important to know where to miss it and how to get up and down from those spots. State is going to really test that part of everyone’s game.”
