It was an eventful night for the Lebanon cross country program on Monday, hosting their annual home meet, but for fans and runners, it was a different environment as this year’s meet was held at Lebanon GreatLife Golf Course.

According to head coach Teresa Moore, the venue was unique for the team and with the vast amount of land they were able to plot three unique courses.

“The Junior High course was 1.5 miles, JV race was 2 miles, and the varsity race was 5K,” she said. “The course was very different than the one we had at Richardson Ranch as it was very flat with just a few hills.”

The varsity boys team took first place at the meet on Monday, winning their division with a score of 47, beating out the second-place team by 45 points.

Moore said this was the best she has ever seen her boys run as a team before.

“We stress working together to get the job done, and that is what they did (on Monday),” she said. “The top five boys stayed together through the majority of the race talking and encouraging each other.”

Medaling for the boys’ varsity team was Luis Pedroza-Vasquez in 5th place, Cael Schmitz in 9th, Zach Jamieson finished 10th, Manny Del Rio-Vasquez took 11th, and Angel Pedroza-Vasquez rounded out the varsity in 12th.

“Anytime you can get your top 5 that close to the top, good things usually tend to happen,” Moore said. “I am very excited at what I am seeing from these young men and have a great group of young JV runners that are exciting as well.”

The JV boys’ team also brought home first place with a winning score of 33 points, besting the second-place team by 27.
Medaling for the JV boys’ were Dylan Church (8th), Jake Baker (9th), Evan Rogers (11th), Von Edwards (12th), Ethan Brand (13th), Michael Jones (14th), Josh Tamayo (15th), and James McCarthy (25th).

On the girls’ side, the varsity team took fourth as a team and had solid individual results, according to Moore.

Medaling for the varsity were Myah Hough (5th), Maddie Jay (14th) and Abby O’Connor (23rd). In the girls’ JV race, Chloe Cross placed 3rd, Tara Adams medaled in 19th, and Jenna Williams finished 27th.

Ozark finished first in the girls’ race with Rolla taking second and Waynesville placing third.

On September 1, the cross country team competed at the SWCCCA meet in Bolivar, and the ‘Jackets had two runners place in the top 15. Luis Pedroza-Vasquez placed 11th in the varsity boys race, and Myah Hough took 13th in the varsity girls race.

“This is an exciting time for Lebanon cross country as we have some very young runners who are turning in some really good times,” Moore said. “I am looking forward to seeing what they can do as the season progresses.”

The team is slated to run again on Thursday afternoon in Willard.
