The Lebanon High School volleyball team opened up Ozark Conference play with a two-set victory over the West Plains Zizzers on Thursday night in Boswell Auditorium, 25-18, 25-15.

It was a dominating performance for head coach Jenny Collins and the rest of her program, as the Volley ‘Jackets completed a three-team sweep of the Zizzers.

In the first set, LHS got off to a strong start, going up 6-1 after a kill from senior Bailey Hough, and later would be up 9-4 after a kill from junior Sydny Leake.

The Zizzers would fight back though and cut the deficit to 16-13 before Lebanon went on a five point run to put things out of reach. In the second set, Lebanon trailed 5-3 early on, but settled in nicely, and had a 20-11 lead before closing things out to secure their first conference win of the season.

“I am very happy with our program (on Thursday),” Collins said. “The freshman team had a solid with our and JV and Varsity following suit. It was important that we kick off our conference play with a good win and (on Thursday) we did just that.

“While we led for the majority of both matches, early in the first set we had some communication errors and caught ourselves not transitioning to the line defensively like we need to be doing. The speed of the game was not what we have been seeing with some of our prior opponents and I think we got caught playing high and transitioning more slowly.
