LHS wrestling teams get back to work after break

The Lebanon High School boys’ and girls’ wrestling team continued right where they left off after the holidays break by respectively placing first, second and third at tournaments over the past weekend.

The girls’ wrestling team is currently ranked No. 1 in the state, according to MissouriWrestling.com and have seven wrestlers ranked in the state rankings.

With a couple tournament wins under their belts already this winter, the team competed in their toughest tournament yet, taking home first-place at the Lafayette Invitational.

The tournament consisted of 19 teams with Lebanon taking first with 183 points, outlasting second-place Lafayette by 42 points and third-place McCluer North by 68 points.

The boys’ varsity team, ranked No. 5 in Missouri Class 3, according to MissouriWrestling.com, placed second out of 20 teams at the Lafayette Invitational after a long break off from the mat. The ‘Jackets finished the tournament with a team score of 210.5, losing by just three points to first-place Seckman High School.

Standout junior Trevor Christian was presented the Lafayette Invitational Outstanding Wrestler Award after his first-place finish that included a win over two-time state champion, Sam Frankowski from Summit High school. Also winning their respective weight classes were seniors Ty Glendenning (182) and Race Cottongim (285).

The junior varsity wrestling team competed at the Marshall Varsity Invitational over the weekend, placing third out of 15 varsity teams. The ‘Jackets finished with a team score of 137.5, 21 points behind first-place team Mexico High School.

In this tournament, Lebanon had two second-place finishers in Terrell Mebruer (132-pounds) and Robert Garner (145-pounds). Other notable results were Bo Rosen (3rd place, 120-pounds), Hayden Dearborn (6th place, 138-pounds), Connor Thom (3rd place, 160-pounds), Jake Henson (3rd place, 170-pounds), Gabriel Schiller (6th place, 182-pounds),  Caden Brown (5th place, 195-pounds), Logan Berry (3rd place, 220-pounds), Taylor Kaffenberger (5th place, 285-pounds).

On Tuesday, the 'Jackets dualed against Sedalia Smith-Cotton, defeating the Tigers 76-4 at Dr. Tom Luth y Fieldhouse.

Winners for the boys included, Dent, Fisher, Patten, Roark, Mowery, Arl, Christian, Adkins, Ivey, Glendenning, Smith, Berry and Cottongim.

The girls' winners were Young and Cunnigham, who won via pin.

The JV defeated Smith-Cotton, 57-24. Winners were Rosen, Garner, Thom, Henson, Presley Cottongim, Austin Johnson, Dearborn, and Colton Heisz.
