AUGUSTA — It is every high school basketball players dream to play for a Peach Jam title on the Nike EYBL circuit, and for Lebanon’s own Quenton Shelton, that dream became a reality on Sunday afternoon as his team won the championship by a score of 80-69 over Phenom University from Wisconsin.

Shelton, going into his junior year at LHS, is a member of the Woodz Elite 16U team based out of Arkansas that is sponsored by NBA player Malik Monk. It was the first year that the program competed in the EYBL.

The Elite Youth Basketball League is a circuit that takes place throughout the summer with the top AAU teams competing against each other in four different sessions.

From there, the top teams qualify for Peach Jam, the most prestigious AAU tournament in the country that takes place in North Augusta, S.C.

Playing in front of multiple Division I coaches, former and current NBA players that included Kevin Durant, Scottie Pippen Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Victor Oladipo, and thousands of fans, Shelton said the atmosphere of the tournament was something he has never experienced before.

“The atmosphere at Peach Jam is like no other tournament in the entire world,” he said. “It had the best atmosphere, and fans basketball has to offer. It was amazing to play in front of all them and to have the success that we had made it that much more special.”
