Combatting Homelessness

More than 100 homeless people found during count

Posted
The local Housing Coalition has taken its first step toward addressing the homeless problem in the community. The group and other local organizations last month conducted a count of homeless people in Laclede County. The count was part of the Housing Coalition effort started by Project 360, which also operates the Sound House inLebanon. Monica Roy heads up the coalition. She said the count on the street the evening of Jan. 29 was 80 adults, 10 unaccompanied teenagers ages 13-18 and 34 kids with adults. She said they were found in the woods, in abandoned buildings and trailer parks. “This is just a fraction of the homeless out there,” she said. “Just because it was pretty cold that night.” For more on this story see Wednesday's LCR.
