Commission taking donations for new flag

Posted

The Laclede County Commission is accepting donations to replace the United States flag that was recently damaged by vandalism.
The Commission voted 3-0 Thursday to establish the Old Glory fund with a maximum amount of $10,000. The money will be used for a $1,500 reward to find the person responsible and to replace the damaged flag. Any remaining amount will be used for a celebration tentatively planned for  Sept. 11 at which the new flag is to be displayed.
Last weekend, someone attempted to burn the flag that was draped over the front of the Laclede County Government Center in honor of Independence Day. Lebanon Police said Thursday that the flag burning incident is still the subject of an ongoing investigation and they are following several leads.
