Conway says agreement will save money, increase law enforcement coverage

Posted

The City of Conway says that a recent agreement with the Laclede County Sheriff’s Office that closed the Conway Police Department will save the city money and provide more law enforcement coverage.
According to Conway’s Facebook page, the city had been spending about $65,000 a year to run the Conway Police Department. About $15,000 of that expense was covered by fines on traffic tickets, leaving the city to pay about $45,000 to cover the difference.
In the new agreement with the LCSO, which will provide a full-time deputy to the area, Conway pays the LCSO $30,000 each year to pay the salary and benefits of the deputy.
