A driver going the wrong way received serious injuries in a crash that tied up Christmas night traffic on I-44 near mile marker 136.
I-44 was mostly closed in both directions at the 136 mile marker for at least an hour because of  the collision.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Christopher R. Ledford, 39, of Marshfield, was driving a 2004 Toyota Corolla eastbound in the westbound lane and struck a 2015 Lincoln Navigator, being driven by Christopher L. Tucker, 48, of Chesterfield, head-on at 7:45 p.m.
Ledford had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken by Mercy Air to Mercy Hospital Springfield with injuries described as serious.
