Lebanon City Fire Department Lt. David Wheeler has spent a lot of his life in fire stations even though he did begin a career in the fire service until age 39.
In fact, as a boy, the fire station was one of his babysitters.
“My dad, (Bill Wheeler) if he had to watch me and my mother was busy, he’d say, ‘Hey, I’m going to City Hall. You want to go hang out at the fire department or the police department?’ Well, it was a no brainer. The fire department fed me. In those days, they had a pinball machine, and I got to ride the truck. If I went to the police department, it was very boring. It was a no brainer. ‘I’m going to the fire department,’” Wheeler said.
