Gary Austin Herst, 80, of Lebanon, was born Sept. 25, 1943, in Quincy, Ill. to Austin Cole and Mary Louise (Wenneker) Herst and died Thursday, April 18, 2024.
He is survived by his wife Ruth; his children, Rhonda Jones (Mike), Melissa Goings (Wes), and Chris Herst (Shelly); a number of grandchildren, a great-grandson; three stepsons, Richard Wilson (Beth), Donnie Wilson (Melissa), and Tom Wilson (Essie); 17 step-grandchildren, 20 step-great-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Gayle Campbell (Larry), David Herst, and Barbara Todd (Lyn).
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Day Funeral Home in Marshfield. Burial with full military honors was in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Phillipsburg. Visitation was held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2024, in the funeral home chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Mt. Zion Cemetery.
