Joel E. Barber School adopts new phone policy

Posted

Joel E. Barber C-5 School has made a change in its student cell phone policy for the soon to begin 2023-24 school year.

Students cannot have their phones turned “on or in their possession during the school day.”

The school handbook states that cell phones do not align with the school philosophy of “minimal disruptions to the learning environment.”

Superintendent Rachelle Jennings said the policy represents a new focus.

“The student cell phone procedures are not entirely new but have been updated to reflect a focus on student learning and classroom instruction for the 23-24 school year. We realize timely communication is important, which is why the office staff is readily available to get messages to students and staff when necessary,” she said.
