Coroner Steve Murrell had an official notice of direct liability served to the Laclede County Commission and County Clerk during Tuesday’s County Commission meeting.
Process server and bail bondsman Ben Hilton served the commission the notice between agenda items during Tuesday’s meeting. The commission did not discuss the document during the meeting and had not responded to a request for comment as of Friday morning.
The notice, which can be read in full in the description of the first part of the Record’s Tuesday meeting recording, transfers direct liability to the Laclede County Commission in any hypothetical coroner negligence suits due to their refusal to provide what Murrell states is necessary to perform his duties.
