The Laclede County Commission on Tuesday approved placing a 1.1875 percent use tax on the April election ballot. The tax would be the same percentage as the county’s existing sales tax and would be raised or reduced to match any such changes in the sales tax.
The commission approved ballot language that specified the use of funds generated from a local sales tax, which associate commissioners Joe Wasmer (Western) and Erik Lindsey (Eastern) both expressed individual approval for. The question is presented below in its entirety with style adjustments:
“In order to provide additional for Law Enforcement personnel, patrol cars and equipment, additional funding for county road maintenance and equipment, and addressing other General Fund needs of the County, shall the County of
Laclede impose a local use tax at the same rate as the total local sales tax rate, currently 1.1875 percent, provided that if the local sales tax rate is reduced or raised by voter approval, the local use tax rate shall also be reduced or raised by the same action? YES/NO."
