Failure to reach deal would cost taxpayers, city says

The Laclede County Commission and the City of Lebanon continued discussions on collecting city taxes at Tuesday’s Commission meeting. The current interim agreement for the county collector to collect Lebanon taxes is set to expire March 30. Failure to reach a new agreement could cost taxpayers $200,000, according to city officials. At Tuesday’s meeting, Lebanon City Administrator Mike Schumacher experessed his concerns about the issue. “I genuinely appreciate Randy (Presiding Commissioner Randy Angst) and I’s relationship and our ability to communicate through challenges and issues. With that said, there is no great way to frame this. This is a failure within the elected officials within this building that is going to translate to a great deal of expense to our shared taxpayers.” For more on this story see Wednesday's LCR.
