Downtown Lebanon will celebrate the opening of Trout Season at Bennett Spring State Park with the first-ever Hooked on Lebanon event this weekend. The events downtown will observe Opening Day of the catch-and-keep season at the park on Saturday. On Friday starting at 2 p.m. and all day Saturday, the city is inviting visitors to “explore Downtown Lebanon and enjoy special activities and offers from local businesses, providing a perfect opportunity for visitors to experience our vibrant community during trout season.” On Saturday from 1 until 3 p.m., kids can meet Truman the Trout of Truth and capture the moment with a photo. Parents can also help protect their children by participating in the Lebanon Police Department's EZ Child ID Event - both events will be at The Hive. Saturday marks the official Trout Season Opening Day at Bennett Spring with the firing of a pistol kicking off the season at 6:30 a.m. Opening day’s honorary starter, is John Walther, a Jefferson City native with a long history with the park. Downtown Lebanon Executive Director Sarah Angst Stewart said the heritage of Bennett Spring is woven into the identity of Lebanon and Laclede County. For more on this story, see Wednesday's LCR.
