Grant Carr, Canon Roark qualify for state tournament

Posted

It was a great day on the links for the Lebanon High School golf team on Monday as the Yellowjackets competed in the Missouri Class 4 District 3 tournament in Marshfield at Whispering Oaks Golf Course.

The big story on the day was senior Grant Carr and freshman Canon Roark punching their tickets to the State tournament next Monday and Tuesday in Joplin.

Carr finished tied for fifth with a 76 (+6) score, while Roark, who was also a State medalist in wrestling, shot an 83 (+13) and finished tied for 16th.

“Incredibly proud of both Grant and Canon,” assistant golf coach Trey Overstreet said. “(Monday’s) conditions were not ideal for anybody, but Grant obviously dealt with them well. The course setup was difficult but fair, and both Grant and Canon did a great job of keeping big numbers off the scorecard.

“Grant shot a season-low five over 76, placing himself inside the top five while Canon shot four over on the back to make the State cutline on the number.”

The Yellowjackets also had two other golfers in contention to make the cut in junior Mason Bowman and senior Houston Brackett. Bowman missed out by one stroke (84 overall score), and Brackett (87 overall score) fell short by four strokes. Wesley Chaffin also had a good day and shot a 90 (+20).
