The Lebanon Yellowjackets fell to the Helias Catholic Crusaders 18-30 during Friday’s Class 5 District 5 Tournament Championship game, ending their postseason play. The football team ended the season with a record of 7-5, with the Crusaders’ record standing 10-1.
“[I’m] really proud of our kids,” Christian said, acknowledging the difficulty of the end of a season, especially one in which the team had faced the challenges of a 1-4 start as well as the loss of a teammate.
The Crusaders stole the momentum of the first quarter with the game’s first touchdown, but the ‘Jackets responded by employing a fierce defense throughout the rest of the game. Once wide receiver Brody Shoemaker scored a touchdown off a pass from quarterback Beckett York, the battle began in earnest.
