John W. Jarboe Jr., 96, of Rockaway Beach, Mo., formerly of Lebanon, died Wednesday, March 24, 2022, in Rockaway Beach.
He was born March 11, 1926, in Pratt County, Kan. to John W. Jarboe Sr. and Maude Ruth Miller Jarboe.
On April 16, 1966, he married Elva Wardman Prater and on April 15, 2006, he married Mary Lorene Prater.
He was preceded in death by his wives, his parents, his siblings, and one stepdaughter, Donna Prater Fletchall.
John was raised on a farm and farmed for several years around Pratt, Kan. He moved to Wichita and worked for Cessna Air Company for 26 years. In retirement, he moved to Lebanon where he was a faithful, longstanding member of the Lebanon Baptist community and maintained a membership at Community Baptist Church. He enjoyed mornings at the Hughes Senior Center, singing in local churches and nursing homes, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a member and past president of the local Lions Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Scott and her husband John of Rockaway Beach; stepchildren, Larry Prater and his wife Diann of Crocker; Mike Prater and his wife Phyllis of Everton; Richard Prater and his wife Charlotte of Buffalo; and Mary Benjamin and husband Carlos of Wichita, Kan.; 25 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for John W. Jarboe Jr. will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Community Baptist Church with Pastor Allen Reeves and Richard Prater officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery under the direction of Shadel’s Colonial Chapel of Lebanon. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at Community Baptist Church.
