Kathleen Ann Lay was born May 23, 1936 in Independence, Missouri to Lawrence and Kathleen Smith Herman. She passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025 in Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was eighty-eight years, nine months and nine days of age.
Kathleen was raised in the Kansas City area and graduated from Oak Grove High School.
On April 6, 1982, she was united in marriage to Ivan Lee Lay. They retired to Pomme de Terre Lake before moving to Lebanon, Missouri. She had lived in Lebanon for over twenty years. She and Ivan enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Kathleen; her husband, Ivan on May 8, 2011; two sisters and one brother.
She is survived by her sons, John Michael Greer and his wife Rhonda of Kansas City, Missouri, Lawrence Greer and his wife Debbie of Buffalo, Missouri; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Kathleen was a member of First Baptist Church in Lebanon. She was a faithful, Christian woman who loved God and shared the gospel with others. She was thankful for the number of ways God had blessed her throughout her life.
She enjoyed volunteering and helping others. Kathleen loved going to the Hughes Senior Center and volunteered many hours at the Center.
Kathleen loved traveling, especially to Florida and Arizona.
Above all, Kathleen loved her family very much and being with her precious grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Kathleen was known for her unwavering dedication to her family, embodying the roles of a loving wife, devoted mother, and cherished grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her home was a haven of warmth, love and laughter where countless memories were created and cherished.
Service for Kathleen Ann Lay will be Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, March 7, from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. A memorial to the Hughes Center has been established and donations may be left at the funeral home.
