Lebanon hires Alex Weathermon as next baseball coach

On Wednesday afternoon, Lebanon High School activities director Will Christian announced the Lebanon R-3 School Board had approved the hiring of Alex Weathermon as the next baseball coach for the Yellowjackets after a pool of applicants was narrowed down.

Weathermon, a 25-year-old, will succeed Dustin Young, who was hired as an assistant principal at Lebanon following ten seasons as baseball head coach.

“I’m blessed with an awesome family first and foremost,” Weathermon said. “My wife, Hannah, and my son, Griffey, are the best friends I could ever ask for. They could not be more excited about the chance to join the community in Lebanon.

“Coach Christian told me to give him a phone call after a game earlier in the week and said he had good news for me. I couldn't believe it at first, but I accepted almost immediately. This is the opportunity of a lifetime, and I think we are going to continue to build on the program that coach (Dustin) Young has done so well with.”

Weathermon currently resides as the head coach for the Marionville Comets, his alma mater, where he graduated in 2015. The Comets won the Missouri Class 2 state championship under Weathermon in 2021 and are currently ranked No. 3 in Class 2 in 2022, hoping to make another title run. He also served as a student assistant at College of the Ozarks for two seasons.

“I knew that we had a ton of talent going into the 2021 season,” said Weathermon about the state title run. “We had several kids have a year to develop during COVID and come back stronger than ever. Not many people believed we could make the run we did, but our pitching was terrific, and the boys played with passion you don't typically see at the high school level. It was more about teaching them how to compete at a high level and have confidence in themselves.
