LHS theatre program to put on "12 Angry Jurors"

The Lebanon High School Theatre Department adapts a classic in its upcoming run of “12 Angry Jurors.” The troupe will perform the play February 20-22 in the Cowan Civic Center. “12 Angry Jurors” is the story of a jury deliberating over whether to find a defendant guilty or not guilty of a crime. Drama teacher Sabrina Sander has long wanted to bring this story to the stage, and after a week off from the troupe’s run of “Beauty and the Beast,” they began work on a markedly different stage experience. “‘12 Angry Jurors’ is very much just such a staple in theatre. It is like such a classic show, and something that I knew I would produce one day,” Sander said. “And I have very talented kids, very talented actors, so I thought that this would be a different kind of challenge for them.” The long conversation of a play with no intermission and no action tested the troupe’s skills, Sander said. The cast, consisting of six female students and six male students, had their memorization skills particularly challenged. To prepare for the play, Sander had the class watch the 1957 film “12 Angry Men” and develop backstories and names for their characters. These character details are not for the audience but for the actors to develop an understanding of the people they play. The audience never learns the jurors’ names.
