LHS wins Fair Grove tournament

If you are Lebanon head coach Jacky Payne, you couldn’t have asked for a better start to the 2021-22 season for the Lebanon High School girls’ basketball team.

On Friday night, Lebanon (4-0 overall) won the Fair Grove Invitational as the No. 2 seed, defeating the host team Fair Grove Eagles in the championship, 67-46.

“That is a tough tournament,” Payne said. “It included West Plains, who was second in state last year, and they return a lot from that team, and I know they got upset by Fair Grove in the semifinals, but for us to come out and dominate the home team of the tournament on their home floor in the championship is a good feeling.

“I thought we started fast with a 10-0 lead, and then we jumped on them (Fair Grove) in the third quarter and didn’t look back.”

With Lebanon leading 46-31 with nine seconds remaining in the third quarter, Raegan McCowan buried a two-pointer from the right corner, helping her surpass the 1,000 point mark early into her junior season.
