The Lebanon Park Board discussed plans for the concession stand and baseball area in Atchley Park at its meeting on Wednesday.
Parks Director John Shelton said this will be the next project for the Parks Department.
“We’re working on getting the new concession stand figured out and what that might look like,” he said. “Part of that process will be new backstops around the fields, which will be netting, which is taller and is what we’re seeing in most of the parks around like Mack’s Creek. This is the netting type of backstop instead of a chainlink fence. The netting allows you to go taller so it prevents foul balls from going from field to field and into the stands as much.”
He said a netting company could also protect the fields at the Nelson Park complex by keeping the chainlink fece and adding netting at the top to keep foul balls from falling on people. Shelton said that plan is discussion only at this time and no money has been set aside for it.
The Board also discussed bids for park concessions, but the one person who expressed interest did not submit a bid.
“So we will be back in the concession business,” Shelton said.
