The Lebanon R-3 Board of Education approved the commitment of funds to the design and bidding of phases two and three of the district’s innovative programming construction at the Robert W. Plaster Center for Student success last Wednesday, according to a district press release.
The approval, which came in the form of a 6-0 vote with one abstention, resulted from a study session previously planned to further examine the budget allocations of the project.
“The Board committed a $5.3 million budget amount for phases 2 and 3 to facilitate progress in design and bidding,” the release said. It added that $2.1 million will be held in reserve until more information on gross max prices for the two phases and the high school project become available.
The Plaster Center portion of the district’s Innovative Programming initiative involves the construction of spaces designed for the academy model of learning. Lebanon High School principal Dr. Kati O’Quinn and Director of Career Education Nathan Wilkerson presented on the project both at the last meeting and this study session.
At the last district meeting, board members requested additional information about the scope of the process before committing any funds out of the $6,270,438 available. Wilkerson had explained that the phases of the project were not required to be completed before the start of another phase.
