Richland celebrates homecoming Friday

Posted
The Richland Bears may have lost their game against the Plato Eagles on Friday, but they and the audience still celebrated Homecoming with enthusiasm. Between the junior varsity and varsity games, Richland recognized its Homecoming court as well as alumni present in the audience. Lexi Burns was crowned Homecoming Queen, and Bryce Pemberton was crowned Homecoming King. Both are seniors on Richland’s basketball teams. Going into the game, the Bears had lost their last game against the Climax Spring Cougars 73-35 and held a season record of 2-14. The Eagles had won their last game against the New Covenant Academy Warriors and held a season record of 9-10. The Eagles took an early lead in the first period and cemented it in the second. The Bears managed to get in several points during lulls in the Eagle’s defense, setting the half time score at 37-7. The Bears picked up momentum in the third period even as the Eagles continued to develop their lead. By the end of the game, Richland had shaped up its scoreboard to a little under half that of Plato. The final score was 67-30. Afterwards, Coach Tanner White said that while the team’s season record might not show it, his young team (their starting lineup tends to include four to five freshmen) has worked hard over the season to develop their skills. With the incoming class of eighth graders, White added that the future of Richland basketball was bright. The Richland Bears next played against Macks Creek on Monday and will play Iberia on Friday.
