We too often vote our pocketbook without thought about preserving our country. Is our country in a mess? You bet it is, and it isn’t because of the president. He inherited the mess and has done a lot to correct things. But healing seldom happens quickly.
Anyone who wishes for a socialist government either expects to be one of the leaders, thus immune from the effects of socialism and uncaring about what happens to others, or they have no inkling of socialism’s history.
Socialists promise the world, until they are in control. Then, suddenly, all the promises are broken, all freedoms are lost. For 250 years, Americans have fought and died for freedom, and now we have a generation that would throw it all away. Why? The cost of living is higher than they want it to be.
In a socialist country, there is no freedom of speech, no freedom of the press, no freedom of religion and no control over prices. When a socialist says “for the people,” he means “for the government.”
Do you want gas prices to come down? Then quit jumping in your car every little bit. Let the gas companies know you will fight back. Don’t sit back and blame the president. Even he is upset that prices haven’t come down. They should have. But who stays home when they can be driving here, there and yonder, mostly for little or no particular reason.
There’s no way to prove it, but if there were, I’d bet there isn’t anyone in Laclede County who couldn’t save a little money each month if they would just cut back on extravagances. Whatever amount you’re living on, you can bet there are people living on less.
One of the reasons for complaints is that few Americans have had it bad. Those who have lived through times of a bad economy complain less than those who haven’t lived through such times.
Little acts of kindness make a for a saintly life and pennies make dollars. Before retirement, I’d pick up a penny in Walmart’s parking lot. Back when I was still working, I was often asked for a loan, and I was able to give it. I didn’t chuck pennies away.
I’ll vote in November and I’ll vote for honest elections, not for cheaper bread. I want America to remain the land of the free. Be glad there is bread.
