Employees promote breast cancer awareness

Independent Stave workers paint, prepare makeup kits

Volunteers from the Independent Stave Company arrived Friday afternoon at Mercy’s Curry Cancer Center ready to serve the cause of breast cancer awareness. The group served from 1 to 3 p.m. and engaged in a variety of projects. “It’s been a full gamut of projects and special things that will support our patients in special ways,” said Karen Simpson-Neasby, executive director for the Mercy Health Foundation. According to Simpson-Neasby, the two hours of service the group gave went towards painting the center’s parking lot, preparing makeup kits and cleaning and organizing wigs. Independent Stave also donated a decorative barrel for the center’s entrance, emblazoned with the pink ribbon of breast cancer awareness. For more on this story, see Wednesday's LCR.
