Conway varsity volleyball head coach Graysen Patten was proud of her team as they ended their season in districts last week.

The Lady Bears brought the season to a close with a 17-15-1 record (win-loss-tie) last Thursday, which Patten noted in a Monday conversation with the Record was improved from their 9-10-2 record last year. She noted that the team had faced its share of adversity this season and had bonded to win.

Conway had played two district matches last week, winning against Dixon 3-0 sets Nov. 22 and then losing to Steelville 3-0 sets the evening of Nov. 23.

The Lady Bears had started off their district play strong in their game against the Dixon Lady Bulldogs in the latter’s high school gym. Though faced with fierce competitors, the Lady Bears rallied in each set to claim victory. The next night, the Lady Bears faced a tough battle against the Steelville Lady Cardinals, losing in three sets.

While the second game’s account was not what the team wanted, Patten was excited to see the team take a first round victory. The team had lost their first rounds of district competitions in the previous two seasons.

The coach was proud of the team’s seniors, saying that they would be greatly missed and had left a lasting impression on the team. They had been, she said, instrumental to the Lady Bears’ success.

The team’s seniors: Abigail Beiermann, Lillian Letterman, Karli Miller, Brooke Potteiger, and Katen Wilson.

Patten also highlighted two of the team’s players during the conversation. Potteiger, she noted, had already been an excellent athlete on the team when she stepped up significantly this season, assisting with powerful attacks.

She also noted junior Adalee Letterman, who broke the previous school record of single season ace serves (76) during the season. At season’s end, she had 84 ace serves.
