Full Story: Richland/Laquey varsity boys soccer coach shares team statistics

The Richland and Laquey varsity boys soccer team had its share of post season accolades. Coach Aaron Thier provided the team’s statistics and commented on the last game of the season and its season as a whole.


The Richland and Laquey varsity boys soccer team – the Richland and Laquey school districts are in a cooperative sponsorship for boys and girls soccer – took fourth place in the Class 1 State Tournament Nov. 22, ending their season with a 13-12 record.


Their said in a statement that the team’s visit to state was Laquey’s second trip to the final four in three years – and the first as a co-op with Richland – and was a “tremendous experience.”


“The program is in a good place. We are inspired by the concept that building is thrilling, and sustaining is exhausting, yet we will continue to seek opportunity and strive to be 1-0 in every moment. Looking forward to next season,” he wrote, continuing that it was one win, family, mind and heart at a time.


Thier provided the following statistics (unless otherwise noted) for his team.


Rhyder Martin, Kaden Hendrix, Trae Benavides, Gavin Shaw, Kole Storie, Taylor Bryant, and Ross Brothers made all-district for Class 1, District 6 (first team, as confirmed on Laquey School District’s Facebook page). All-district honorable mentions are Laquey’s Landon Dennis and Evan Sherrer.


Shaw, Martin, Brothers, and Hendrix made all-region for Class 1, Region 3. Thier was the public school coach of the year for the region.
Martin (co-offensive player of the year) made the first team of all-state. Shaw and Hendrix made second team. Brothers was an honorable mention.


Storie also made the Small School All Academic Team (confirmed from mosoccercoach.com and Laquey School District’s Facebook page).


Thier also provided the state record statistics he planned to submit.


For this season, Martin was ranked 13th in points per game (4.6) and 18th for total points (106).


In his career, Martin was 27th all-time in goals (94), 25th all-time assists (46), 16th all-time total points (234), and 17th in points per game.


In individual games, Martin ranked 13th in goals (six) scored in a game against Aurora, sixth in points (15) in a game against Aurora, 11th in points (12) in a game against Fatima, and 19th in points (11) in a game against Eugene.


Hendrix ranked 19 in an individual game for points scored in a game (11) against Iberia.


As for program bests:


Martin was second in all-time career goals for all team (94), third in all-time career assists (46), fourth in program history for goals in a season (44), and sixth in all-time season assists (18).


Hendrix fourth in all-time season assists (20).


Brothers is fourth in program history for clean sheets – shut-outs – (eight).
