Stoutland senior and basketball player Mallory Shaw recently earned the post-season recognition of All-State.
This was the first year Shaw had earned the honor for basketball. Shaw did not expect to receive All-State and was excited about it.
Stoutland Head Girls Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Alex Nicholson explained that the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association was the selective body for All-State this year.
Shaw has played in the program since she was a freshman. Over that time, she said she has had to step up as a leader and has seen the program lose and gain players. She said she thought it had been interesting to play with a variety of players.
“It’s been a good experience,” Nicholson said of Mallory’s development as a basketball player in the program. “Mallory’s like a coach on the court.”
Looking towards her future with basketball, Shaw was hopeful to play the sport in college.
She said playing on the team has given her a lot of leadership experience and dealing with different personalities.
For the senior, the best moment of the season besides earning All-State was getting to play in the district championship match this year. Missouri State High School Activities Association noted that St. Elizabeth won against Stoutland 69-42 in that match, leaving Stoutland with an 18-11 season record.
Shaw said that hard work pays off and that she gave all the glory to God.
