Hershel Millard Nichols, 86, Conway, MO, son of Millard and Fern (Shaver) Nichols was born January 18, 1940, in Odin, MO, and departed this life on February 3, 2026, with his loving family by his side.
On June 3, 1961 Hershel was united in marriage to Betty Fern McClanahan and to this union two daughters were born.
Hershel is preceded in death by his parents Millard and Fern Nichols, and his wife, Betty Nichols.
He is survived by his daughters, Melanie Nichols (Terri) and Marla Nichols (Shawn); two granddaughters, Brinkley and Roxy; brother, Jim Nichols and wife Sue and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Hershel grew up farming with his parents riding a pony to a one room schoolhouse. He attended and graduated from Niangua High School where he was voted Most Likely to Succeed. He attended SMSU in Springfield, MO and received a degree in Business and Accounting, later obtaining a Master’s in Business Administration. Betty was the light of his life and in college they planned their life together.
He taught Typing, General Business, Accounting and eventually became Jr. High Principal and retired after a time as High School Principal to round out his career of 35 plus years as an educator; most of it in the Conway School District.
He loved horses, hobby farming, gardening, and helping his girls with 4-H projects such as showing Jersey heifers. He survived many adventures including a plane crash!
Hershel’s love and light was his family, and it was brightened when Miss Brinkley arrived. He was always available with a helping hand or a wild fish tale. His last few years at the Turner’s Rock Community he was known as the “Bead or Bracelet guy” and a personality to never forget.
Funeral service for Hershel Millard Nichols was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday February 10, 2026, at Day Funeral Home, Marshfield, with burial in Eureka Cemetery, Rader, MO. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday February 9, 2026, in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Docs On Rocks in care of the funeral home.
