Monica Luan Duskin was born on our nation’s bicentennial, July 4, 1976, to John F. Haueter and Jean E. Jennings Haueter in Lodi, California. She departed this life Saturday, June 22, 2024 in Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri following a hard fought battle with brain cancer. She was forty-seven years, eleven months and eighteen days of age.
Monica was a young girl when she moved with her family to Long Lane, Missouri and attended school in Conway. She attended high school in Buffalo, Missouri and graduated with the class of 1994. Monica chose to further her education at Missouri State University where she earned both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career in 2006 in Long Lane where she taught first, second and third graders. Following her time there, she taught at Buffalo Schools where she taught fourth and fifth graders and most recently taught at Buffalo Middle School.
Monica was a wonderful and dedicated teacher and her students loved her dearly. She looked forward to each new school year and meeting her classroom of students. Each year provided its own list of challenges, but Monica met those challenges with determination and an open mind to help each student achieve their learning potential.
On July 19, 2003, Monica married her true love and best friend, Shawn Ray Duskin. During their twenty years of marriage, they have celebrated the joyful times, as well as supported one another during the sad and very challenging times.
Monica was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Glen Haueter; her maternal grandparents, Earl J. and Joan A. Jennings; and her brother-in-law, Shawn Johnston.
Monica is survived by her husband Shawn of Lebanon; three children, Joshua Duskin and his wife Andria, Jordan Duskin, RayAn Duskin all of Lebanon; her grandchildren, Alyson Duskin, Addison Duskin both of Lebanon; her parents, John and Jean Haueter of Lebanon; her grandmother, Lula Mae Haueter; two siblings, Eric Haueter and his wife Christal, and Glenda Wasson and her husband Andrew all of Lebanon; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and countless dear friends.
Monica was an active member of Phillipsburg Christian Church. She loved God with all her heart and had a strong relationship with her Heavenly Father.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was always doing crafts of all kinds with her children and was a great mom. She loved spending time spoiling her grandchildren, Allison and Addison. They made her heart so very happy and they had so much fun together.
In addition to doing crafts, Monica enjoyed scrapbooking, painting, and playing games on her phone.
Words cannot adequately express the impact she has had on the lives of her family and the many students she taught over the years. Monica was known for her kindness, integrity and commitment she had for her family and the teaching profession. She was an example of quiet strength, determination and faith.
Her home was a haven of warmth, love, and laughter, where countless memories were created and treasured. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and know that her family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories she made for them.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park. A memorial has been established to the Monica Duskin Scholarship Fund and donations may be left at the funeral home.
