Norman Wayne “Wayne” Calk, son of Marshall Howard and Viola Virginia Anne (Patterson) Calk, was born May 24, 1939, in Houston, Texas and departed this life on September 8, 2026, at his home in Stoutland, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years.
Wayne joined the United States Navy and proudly served our country for many years, until his retirement. During those years, he obtained the rank of QMCS (Quartermaster Senior Chief Petty Officer) E-8. He was a decorated sailor, having earned various awards and commendations during his service time.
On March 12, 1960, Wayne married the love of his life, Peggy Loraine Hall. Together they shared sixty-six years of love and lasting memories, while raising their two children, Norman Wayne Jr. and Caye Lynne.
After retiring from the Navy, Wayne had many things that kept him busy. He was active in community clubs and organizations. He was a Scottish Right Mason and a Shriner, roles he prided himself in. He and Peggy also started a dairy farm, which they ran for several years. Later, his love for bowling led him into a management position at Starlite Lanes which he thoroughly enjoyed. During this time, he also ran a rural mail route for the United States Postal Service.
He and Peggy shared a passion for genealogy and took many trips to the local cemeteries piecing together lineage of past relatives. They also enjoyed taekwondo. He was a proud second degree Black Belt. He was an avid reader and was most fond of Tom Clancy and James Patterson Novels. He was a nature enthusiast and spent time outdoors, as often as he could and would always put out a salt block to attract various animals to his yard, so he could watch them. However, his family was most important to him. He loved having everyone together, especially for Thanksgiving, and cherished all the memories they made.
