Lebanon Boys Tennis Head Coach Ron Crowell reported that Capital City beat Lebanon 5-4 in the opening varsity match of the season. It was an away match, the Missouri State High School Activities Association noted on its website.
Crowell said not playing well early in the match had the team catching up most of the night. The team had too many unforced errors, he said.
Curtis Frazier and Denver Woodruff were “awesome” in their doubles match (which they won 8-0), Crowell said, also winning individually in singles (Frazier won 8-4, and Woodruff won 8-3). He also praised Josh Rogers’s singles performance (where he won 8-1).
Crowell thought that it was good for the team to play, “and we needed to see where our strengths and weaknesses are and we did that. We will look to bounce back at home against Willow Springs on Tuesday.”
In singles, Capital City’s Braxton Fowler won 8-6 against Conor McGruder, Capital City’s Aniruddha Singh won 8-0 against Teigan Vance, and Capital City’s Macklin Reinhard won 8-3 against Joseph Schuneman.
In doubles, Capital City’s Fowler and Ayaan Khan won 8-4 against McGruder and Rogers, and Capital City’s Singh and Reinhard won 8-1 against Vance and Schuneman.
In junior varsity singles, Linkin Darnell won 6-1, and Shawn Worley won 7-5.
Varsity and junior varsity are scheduled on the MSHSAA website to play Willow Springs at home today. On March 26, both varsity and junior varsity teams are scheduled to play at Hillcrest, on March 27 against Glendale at home, on March 30 at Kickapoo, and on March 31 against Joplin at Springfield.
