Stanford Steven “Steve” Rhoads, 78, of Lebanon, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in Lebanon, Missouri, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Steve was born on March 22, 1948, in Springfield, Missouri, to Stanford and Laura Rhoads. He spent his life devoted to his family, his students, and the community he loved.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Vicky Rhoads; his five children, Anthony Rhoads and wife Caroline, Denny Rhoads and wife Samantha, Deidra Whitaker and husband Matt, Travis Rhoads and wife Amber, and Dustin Rhoads and wife Emily; and his six grandchildren, Chansey Winder and husband Steve, Brylee Rhoads, Emilee Whitaker, Adelyn Whitaker, Avery Rhoads, and Trenton Whitaker, who brought him immense joy and pride.
He is also survived by his sister Jane Kelley and husband Don; brothers-in-law Kevin Spoering and wife Lora, and Kent Spoering and wife Alba; nieces and nephews Anna Watts and husband Dallas, Nick Guthery and wife Christine, and several other nieces and nephews; as well as several cousins.
For more than 30 years, Steve faithfully served the Lebanon community as an educator. He dedicated his career to guiding, encouraging, and inspiring generations of students. His commitment to education left a lasting impact on countless lives, and he was respected by colleagues, students, and families alike.
Above all, Steve loved spending time with his family. Whether gathered for holidays, celebrations, or simple everyday moments, he treasured being surrounded by those he loved. He was known for his sense of humor, his love of telling stories, and his playful spirit. A natural prankster, Steve enjoyed making people laugh and brought joy to those around him.
Steve was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend. He will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, steady presence, and the genuine care he showed to those around him. The legacy of love, integrity, and service he leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and hospice team at Lebanon South Nursing and Rehab for their compassionate care and support during Steve’s final days.
A private Celebration of Life for close family members will be held at a later date.
