Mike Swofford is the Democratic candidate in the 141st House seat, which includes part of Laclede County.
Swofford did not respond to Facebook and email requests for an interview.
According to a biography on his campaign website, he grew up in the Kansas City area and Mountain Grove. He graduated from Mountain Grove, Class of 1970.
His biography states, “I headed to Colorado excited to study to be a diesel mechanic, but the school shut down after only six months. I came back to Missouri and became a carpenter. Everything happens for a reason, though; I metmy now late wife, Ellie Swofford. This started the 52-year story of our marriage. We worked together at Brown Shoe Company until it closed, had a daughter, and watched that daughter grow up and have a daughter. "
His campaign website states that he is “for the environment” and pro-choice and supports the Respect Missouri Voters Initiative.
A policy statement on his site reads, “I believe in the government working for the people. I want to focus on the issues that are really affecting voters. I think that the people should have more say in what and how the government is run.”
