This Friday and Saturday, Conway Community Days returns for a 47th year of fellowship and fun.
According to its schedule (which readers can find in this issue), the community festival begins Sept. 11, 5 p.m.-9 p.m., and continues Saturday, which begins at 9 a.m. and leads to fireworks at 9 p.m.
Connie Frost, the president of the Conway Community Advisory Council, which puts on the festival, looked to Conway Community Days in an Aug. 26 interview as a “good, fun, family weekend.” The festival’s theme, she noted, was “Party like it’s 1776.”
The layout of the festival has approximately stayed the same, Frost said. The center of Community Days, as the Record wrote last year, is its stage on Spruce Street.
A new planned feature this year, according to Frost, is a turtle race for those racers over 18. She said on Aug. 26 the race is set to immediately follow the regular turtle race and the entry fees would benefit a local family in need. She later said the entry fee for racers is $5.
Another new feature this year is an amateur cake decorating contest for adults and older children and cupcake decorating for the younger children, she said Aug 26. She later said the cake decorating contest would have a patriotic theme.
Much else will stay the same, according to Frost on the 26. There will be food trucks – with a special Sweet Street next to the Conway Community Center – music, and the parade where people can join the day of. The parade is conducting a canned goods drive, said Frost, the results of which will go to a local food resource.
The carousel will be open, Frost said, and there would be bounce houses as well.
LifePoint West (formerly LifePoint Conway) will hosting children’s games next to the Conway Community Days Alexander Carousel Building as well, such as gaga ball, according to Frost.
