Frederick, Lindsey are winners in Tuesday primary

Laclede County voters chose Matt Frederick for sheriff and Erik Lindsey for eastern district commissioner in the Republican primary election Tuesday. Julie Rayl-Gilstrap also retained her seat as assessor in the primary. The winners will appear on the November general election ballot with no Democratic opposition since no Democratic candidates filed. Matt Frederick won convincingly in the sheriff’s race, defeating Gregory Mattes with more than 70% of the vote, 4,921 to 1,744. Erik Lindsey came out on top in the crowded race for eastern district county commissioner. Lindsey received 30 percent of the total ballots cast, 1,108 votes, in a five-way race. Other candidate vote totals were Adam Fries with 767, David Miller with 201, David Layman with 724 and Laina Starnes with 823. Assessor Julie Rayl-Gilstrap fended off a challenge from Brett Burroughs. She received more than 70% of the vote, 4,756 to 1,789. Unopposed candidates were Steve Mathis, surveyor; Steve Murrell, coroner; Annette Charles, public administrator and Joe Wasmer, associate commissioner western district.
