The City of Lebanon has announced this year’s winners of the Mayor Lyle Anderson Gold Leaf Award for Volunteer service. This year's honorees are Samantha Redick (Youth) and Abbey Hoskins (Adult). Mayor Jared Carr will present the awards during the April 27 City Council Meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Stanley H. Allen Council Chambers at Lebanon City Hall. Now in its eighth year, the Gold Leaf Award recognizes one youth and one adult annually who go above and beyond in volunteer service. Youth recipient: Samantha Redick Samantha Redick doesn't wait to be asked. She steps up when others need her most. The Lebanon High School senior was selected after receiving multiple nominations highlighting her consistent impact across the community. While her service spans many areas, one thing remains constant: showing up for others in meaningful ways. At Lebanon Courage Special Olympics, Samantha has spent the past two years encouraging and supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities. She helps create an environment where they can grow in confidence, compete, and build lasting friendships. Her work with Heritage Baptist Church's Refuge Recovery Ministry reflects something deeper: personal investment in one of Lebanon's most pressing challenges. Addiction touches many families, and Samantha has chosen to be part of the solution. She builds genuine relationships with people in recovery, serves on the worship team, and helps care for children so parents can focus on rebuilding their lives. The ministry also supports families navigating grief, parenting challenges, mental health struggles, and other life transitions. It's a place where people find both practical help and community. She's following the example set by her father, Jason Redick, who leads the ministry and has been involved in recovery work in Lebanon for many years. Samantha also leads among her peers through Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Student Council service projects. She helped raise funds for Project Graduation by participating in Lebanon High School's Dancing with the Stars event and worked with the Area Prom Closet to remove financial barriers preventing students from participating in important milestones. What sets Samantha apart isn't just where she serves, but the consistency and genuine care she brings to each commitment. She is the daughter of Jason and Toni Redick. Adult Recipient: Abbey Hoskins Abbey Hoskins has made a tangible impact on downtown Lebanon, not just through vision, but through the countless hours she consistently invests in turning ideas into reality. As a member of the Lebanon Downtown Business District Board, she has dedicated significant time to strengthening the heart of the city. She supports local businesses, encourages entrepreneurship, and helps create energy and opportunity in the downtown area. Through her involvement with the Lebanon Board of Realtors, Abbey has helped organize "Movie in the Park" events that bring families together while supporting local food drives. It's community building and service working hand in hand. Her work with Project 227 continues that same downtown focus, helping support new business growth and creating opportunities for entrepreneurs to establish roots and thrive in Lebanon. Abbey brings both vision and follow-through. She's someone who not only sees what's possible, but puts in the work to make it happen in ways that benefit the entire community. A Community Built by Service Established in 2019, the Mayor Lyle Anderson Gold Leaf Award honors Lebanon volunteers whose service spans areas such as education, public safety, health, civic engagement, and community development. Mayor Carr said selecting this year's recipients was especially challenging due to the quality of nominations received. "These are never easy decisions," Carr said. "We received exceptional nominations this year, which speaks volumes about Lebanon's character. Samantha and Abbey stood out because of how they serve. You can see the real impact they're making in people's lives, and that's what this award represents."
